Are you guys looking for a budget-friendly great looking Bluetooth speaker which is both easy on your bags and your pocket. Well, look no further than the Mi outdoor Bluetooth speaker. With a 5W top-firing full range speaker and google-nest mini alike looks, the Mi-outdoor Bluetooth speaker performs really well for the price. Today, we are going to have a deeper look at the device and discuss all the positive and negative aspects of the device in detail.

Talking about the unboxing first, we are greeted with a typical Mi style orange box with white accents. Inside the box, we have the speaker itself, wrapped properly in a plastic pouch, the short micro-usb cable which will be used for charging the device (yah, its not type-c as everyone would have liked it to be) and some paperwork. The things are neatly packed and hollow card-boards being the only shock-absorbing elements inside the box.

Now, coming to the physical overview of the device, the device definitely looks like the charcoal version of the google nest mini with only the sort-of lanyard that comes with the Mi speaker as an exception but is upper handy when it comes to hanging the device on tree branches and or and stand of any kind. The build quality of the device is really impressive and the rugged design gives us a very comfortable and confident hold for that matter. The outer-shell of the mi outdoor Bluetooth speaker comes with two different kinds of finishes with top shell comprising of woven-fabric kind of design which does a fantastic job of resisting scratches and the bottom part of the device is constructed of hard-rubber which helps the device to sta6y in place when keeping upright in a table of plain surface of any sort. Well, I told you guys, that Mi has taken a lot of design cues from google. The size of the speaker is fairly moderate and I’m pretty sure that you will find the speaker larger that you expected when you first time see it. The device is also IPX4 rated making it water-resistant of sorts which is quite decent for the price that it comes in. Also, the micro-usb and aux ports are located behind a tight rubber cover which further adds to the ruggedness of the device.

Coming to the most important aspect of any audio-device, the sound quality of the Mi outdoor speaker is fairly decent though I would say that it could have been a tad been louder given its outdoor naming front. The device is touted to be an outdoor speaker and the speaker seems to be lacking in the loudness aspect for a proper outdoor use-case scenario. Don’t get me wrong, the sound quality of the Mi outdoor Bluetooth speaker is excellent for a Bluetooth speaker and for a speaker in that price range. Sound-quality and loudness are two completely different aspects and the Mi outdoor Bluetooth speaker shines during indoor usage. The speaker has very good bass for its size ….let me get that out of the way straight away. The bass doesn’t much overpower the highs and the mids and is done in a very good way. The mids however, as expected for a speaker in this price range isn’t really defined and the mushy and muffle-ness is clearly evident while playing the speaker at high volumes. The sound doesn’t distort at high volumes at all and the clarity of the speaker is pretty good. The highs, on the other hand are pretty sharp for the price and has impressed me somewhat. The overall sound signature can be called warm at best and quite a good experience while listening to music.  The battery life of the device is extremely good with xiaomi claiming full 20-hrs of playback time at 80% volume level and in our testing, we managed to reach the 19ish hour mark which is still remarkable for a speaker of this size. The device actually packs in a 2000 mAh cell and hence the excellent battery life of the device.

Coming at Rs. 1,399, the speaker packs in a lot of punch and is extremely practical compared to the rest of the competition at this price point. With Xiaomi, you also get the added benefit of good service and quality guarantee and the ruggedness of the speaker adds to the charm. Overall, its an excellent device at the price-point but if you are particularly looking for louder alternatives for complete outdoor usage, there are decent options available like the Boat Stone Grenade, however, I won’t really be giving you guys a word on the sound quality for the Boat alternative. In my opinion, the Mi Outdoor Bluetooth speaker is a decent option for the price and worth taking a look at. That’s all for this bit, catch you guys on the next one. Cheers!
