When it
comes to mid-range smartphones, Xiaomi has been in the reign for a while. Their
market share has been distrupted by Realme by quite a margin, who now has the
reputation for being the no. 4 smartphone manufacturer in India by sales
volume. When we come to the best mid-ranger, three options strike our mind
namely Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, Realme X and the Realme XT. Considering the
price to performance ratio, the redmi Note 8pro definitely styeals the crown.
Let’s find out why.
The first point to justify my
recommendation is MediaTek Helio G90T SoC. This is purely a 60FPS Full HD+
gaming capable SoC considering the fact that you can play PUBG Mobile on the
Redmi Note 8 Pro at HD and ultra frame rates, all thanks to the ARM Mali G-76
MC4 GPU clocked at 800 Mhz. The Most powerful SoC under the 20K segment, the
performance on the Redmi Note 8 pro is a joy, all owing to the snappy MIUI 11
and core configuration of the Helio G90T, 2*ARM Cortex A-76 + 6*ARM Cortex
A-55. The SoC also supports higher frame rate displays i.e., 90 Hz displays. The ANTUTU score of the Helio G90T is a whooping 283,333 which is quite impressive considering the price point at which Redmi Note 8 Pro comes and compared to the ANTUTU score of Snapdragon 730G which is 259,109. Also, for ypur refernce, the ANTUTU score of Snapdragon 712 is 210,003.
Coming to optics, the Redmi Note
8 pro has a 64 MP f/1.9 primary sensor and an ultra-wide 8MP snapper. The main
sensor is the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1. There are two other sensors which are
more of a gimmick in my frank opinion. The sensors are at par with the
competition but what makes Xiaomi the leader in image quality is all the after
processing that goes into the making. When it comes to image processing Realme
still has a lot of work to do. White-balnce is always right on the money, even
skin-tones, well-balanced shadows and highlights, adequately sharp images amd
natural colours, all that makes Xiaomi’s camera a little better than the rest.
But, when it comes to the front-camera, the Realme Duo is undoubtedly a steal.
The Sony IMX471 on Realme Duo offer crisp details, amazing HDR effects and
excellent contrast. For the front-optics, the Note 8 pro has a 20MP SONY IMX376, which is good but not as comparable to IMX471.
Battery life definitely gets a
boost on the RN8 Pro owing to the 4500 mAh cell compared to the 4000 mAh of the
Realme XT and the 3750 mAh of the Realme X. But the battery department is quite
subjective in my frank opinion. I prefer the VOOC Flash Charge on the realme
Duo to the Higher battery endurance life on the Redmi Note 8 Pro. For a lot of
people, faster charging doesn’t seem to make a difference but the extra battery
juice makes a lot of difference. So, this department is highly controversial
and hence we won’t make any remark on the same.
Additional features on the RN8
Pro include Alexa built-in, the legacy of IR Blaster, a better built phone and
better software experience. Also, a very important thing that we should have
mentioned earlier is the presence of 6GB Ram in the base model of the RN8 Pro
compared to only 4GB in the Realme Duo. The Realme Duo also come with polycarbonate
built which is a pity in my frank opinion considering the fact that both of
these phones are costlier than the RN 8 Pro, metal is better than plastic in
almost every aspect. Also, a very
subjective opinion is the under display finger-print in the Realme Duo, the
scanners do tend to malfunction if a very high quality tempered glass screen
protector is not used. Practically, a person buying a mid-range phone, wont
definitely be going for copstly screen-protectors and those who opting for
cheap screen proctectors might be facing a lot of trouble unlocking your phone.
You can definitely opt for the face unlock on the XT but I guess you won’t want
your camera to pop up evertime you unock your Realme X.
Thus, considering all the
aspects in buying a mid-range smartphone, the Remi Note 8 pro came out to be a
better practical phone with better cameras and per formance. But the Realme Duo
also have a lot up their sleeves and hence will put up a tough fight against
Xiaomi’s latest entry.
